With a higher price bracket, gaming laptops are for gaming enthusiasts. An enthusiast’s target market is the most tech-savvy and does very well know what they need.

Keeping the modern gaming needs, we at “itslaptop” are comparing two of the latest ultra-high-tech gaming laptops currently available, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 and Lenovo Legion 7. 

Both Lenovo and ASUS are the oldest players in the game and know what to sell to gaming enthusiasts. “Its laptop’s” team has compared both the systems based on their:

So; let’s begin:

The Display:

The Lenovo Legion 7 has a 16” 4K UHD screen with 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio, with extra goodies such as 165 Hz refresh rate, 4 Zone RGB, WQXGA Anti-glare, 100 Percent sRGB, Dolby Vision, Free-Sync, G-Sync, DC Dimmer. The display is quite good.  

Comparing this to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17, The Asus has a larger display of 17.3 inches with 4k UHD and 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution. The Pixel per inch is also high at 225 PPI compared to Lenovo’s 189 PPI display making the images much sharper. The extra feature with Asus is a 120 Hz IPS-level 500nits Display. 

Both the laptops don’t have touch screens, but their displays have antiglare.

The CPU & GPU

The Lenovo Legion 7 comes with an AMD Ryzen 9 processor having 3.3 GHz, Octa-Core Turbo Boost Upto 4.6 GHz, and 16 MB Cache. The processor is a 5th generation AMD octa-core. AMD Ryzen 9 is one of the best processors available for gaming and has positive reviews by gaming critics for its immense gaming capabilities. These laptops also come with Intel Core i7 11th Gen Core i7-11800H.

The Lenovo Legion 7 comes with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6 GPU with 6GB of dedicated graphic memory. 

Comparing this to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17, The Asus comes with an Intel Core i9 11th Gen 11900H processor with 4.9 Hz of speed as standard. The processor has a 24 MB cache and is an 11th generation Intel processor. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 comes with a Mobile Intel HM570 Express Chipsets.

GPU is almost similar to the Lenovo, and S17 comes with a GDDR6 16 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX RTX 3080. The difference in the GPU is the higher 16 GB dedicated graphic memory.

The Memory and Storage

The Lenovo Legion 7 comes with 32 GB DDR4 RAM with 2 Ram Slots for additional support. The Bus speed is 3200 MHz. The Storage can vary from an SSD of 512 GB to 1TB and 2TB M.2 2280 SSD. The laptop also has 2 x PCIeNVMe, PCIe 3.0 x4 slots for additional support.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 has 32 GB DDR4 RAM with additional 2-slots for extra RAM if the user requires an upgrade. Usually, laptops don’t come with buses for upgrade options. The system comes equipped with 512GB or 1TBM.2 NVMePCIe Gen3x2 SSD upgradeable to 3 TB.

The Design

The Lenovo legion 7 is 14.01 x 9.84 x 0.6 – 0.7 inches (356 x 250 x 15.9 – 17.9 mm) in dimensions, and weighs a minimum of 4.1 Lbs. The keyboard and trackpad have 6-row, spill-resistant, multimedia Fn keys, numeric keypad, LED backlight, Buttonless glass surface multi-touch touchpad, support Precision TouchPad (PTP).

The Lenovo laptop has a Top-placed Built-in HD Webcam (720p) with Privacy Shutter and Top-placed Built-in HD Webcam (720p) with Privacy Shutter sound. itslaptop 

Comparing this to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17, the Asus is 15.70 x 10.70 x 0.73 inches(399 x 272 x 18.7 mm) in dimensions and weighs a minimum of 5.73 Lbs, slightly heavier than the Lenovo. The keyboard and trackpad have a Backlit chiclet keyboard design, Per-key RGB lighting, Aura Sync, 1.4mm travel distance, N key rollover. 

There is a 720p builtin camera in the Asus, but the laptop has two speakers with Smart AMP technology.

The Ports and Input:

The Lenovo Legion 7 has:

  • 6 USB ports, The USB ports are Type 3
  • 2 Type C Ports
  • HDMI Port 
  • Headphone and Mic Combo Jack
  • RJ45 (LAN)

There is no multislot or card reader.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17, on the other hand, has: 

  • 5 USB Ports – 3 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type A) and 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C)

  • HDMI Port

The Battery Life:

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 offers Up to 10 hours of video playback and 6 hours of 21 minutes of web browsing. The system comes with a 230W power adaptor Support Type-C PD 3.0 up to 65W.

The Lenovo Legion 7 71 WHr (Integrated 3-Cell Li-Polymer battery) offers Up to 4.9 hours Tested with MobileMark® 2018. The system comes with a 230W slim tip adaptor.
