The first public housing with cool roofs in Latin America is being built in the province of Misiones, in the northeastern Argentina.
The implementation of this nanotechnology will mitigate the effects of global warming and reduce energy consumption in homes.
MACOMA Environmental Technologies Corp., is the responsible for the project, which has already inaugurated its plant in the Industrial Park of Innovation in Posadas, Misiones, Argentina. The multinational company is manufacturing ecological reflective nano paints.
MACOMA COOL ROOF is a Rated Product by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), It possesses a high thermal emissivity, allowing it to effectively reflect heat back to the atmosphere.
“The high solar reflectance or albedo effect is the essential characteristic of a cool roof as it helps to reflect sunlight and heat away from a building, reducing roof temperatures. In addition, 1000 sq. ft. (100 m2) offsets 28 tons of carbon dioxide, an action that qualifies for the commercialization of Voluntary Carbon Credits,” said MACOMA CEO.
The cool roofs were the brainchild of Dr. Hashem Akbari, Ph.D. a professor of environmental and civil construction engineering at Concordia University, Canada.
Dr. Akbari conducted ground-breaking research on the potential for cool roofing and paving materials to reduce the urban heat islands effect. 
Prof. Hashem Akbari, Ph.D. 2007 Nobel Peace Prize recipient is MACOMA’s scientific adviser and praised the decision of the Government of the Province of Misiones to “carry out actions against global warming that the rest of the world should copy.”
According to the professor, the next step for MACOMA is to develop cool pavements with the same qualities.
As a result of the collaboration Agreement signed in October 2021 between Nevada Center for Applied Research (NCAR), University of Nevada, Reno, represented by Carlos Cardillo, Ph.D., and the Province of Misiones, Argentina, represented by Lt. Governor Dr. Carlos Arce, MACOMA Environmental Technologies, a Nevada-based company, became the first innovative reflective nano-paint industry to participate in this mutual exchange program and the first NCAR company to operate in Misiones, Argentina.
Now, MACOMA, a Nevada company, is expanding its operations internationally. From Argentina, where the company is scaling up its manufacturing plant, MACOMA is growing its business to Paraguay, Brazil, and Uruguay. MACOMA’s next manufacturing plant will be built in Panama and most likely in the Middle East.
