For the first time in its 176-year history, the America’s Cup will be sailed in Italian waters. Naples hosts the 38th edition in 2027, with racing set directly off the city seafront, and My Italian Charter says the finest view will belong to the spectator fleet.
For the first time since the trophy was first raced in 1851, the America’s Cup will be sailed in Italian waters. Naples hosts the 38th edition in 2027, with the Louis Vuitton Cup opening on May 22 and the Match itself running from July 10, the racecourse set directly off the city seafront beneath Vesuvius. My Italian Charter, operated by DMA Yachting, says the finest seats will be afloat, and that clients hoping to watch from their own deck should start planning now.
The geography is what makes Naples special. The racing takes place close to shore, in full view of the city, which means the spectator fleet sits closer to the action than at almost any previous Cup. A crewed yacht positioned with that fleet is a grandstand, hotel, and restaurant in one, and on the days between races the same yacht is at anchor off Capri or Ischia rather than in a crowded city. The company’s guide to an America’s Cup yacht charter covers the racing calendar, yacht positioning in the bay, and how a Cup week fits into a wider Italian itinerary.
“Imagine race day from your own deck,” said Yanna Pristas, Italy Charter Specialist at DMA Yachting. “Some of these superyachts have helipad platforms that become private grandstands, and wide beach decks at the waterline with a pool and a bar. You watch the fastest race boats on earth fly past while the crew brings out cocktails and snacks. And when the racing ends, you do not fight the crowds back into the city. You slip away to Capri or a quiet bay and have dinner at anchor. That is the freedom a private charter buys.”
The calendar rewards early planners. Naples gets its first taste this September, when a preliminary regatta runs from the 24th to the 27th, and the main event stretches across nearly two months in 2027, from the Louis Vuitton Cup in late May to the Match in mid-July. Charter rates for the Bay of Naples in Cup season are expected to carry a premium, and the yachts with the best spectator positioning will be reserved well before the racing begins.
“The racecourse is right off the city seafront, so a yacht in the Bay of Naples that week is the best vantage point there is,” said Jessica Edmunds, Yacht Charter Broker at DMA Yachting. “Plan it as a full week: race days with the spectator fleet, the other days at anchor off Capri or Ischia.”
The Cup also lands in the middle of the Italian charter summer, which is exactly the point, according to the team.
“This is the sporting event of the decade landing in the most beautiful bay in Italy, and the atmosphere on the water will be extraordinary, with the home crowd behind Luna Rossa,” Yanna added. “My advice is to take the whole week and use the yacht properly. Race days in the spectator fleet, then lunch at anchor under the cliffs of Capri, a slow day at the thermal springs on Ischia, dinner ashore in Procida, and the Amalfi Coast an easy cruise south. The racing gives the week its heartbeat, and the bay does the rest.”
For guests extending beyond the bay, an Amalfi Coast yacht charter continues naturally from the racecourse, and the country’s superyachts available for charter in Italy put the Cup, the coast, and the islands into a single summer. My Italian Charter recommends that clients with a Cup week in mind settle their yacht and dates over the coming winter, while the strongest choices are still open.
