Designing How Companies Think: The Motion Strategy of Visual Innovator Pavlo Tkachenko

Designing How Companies Think

Motion graphics are in remarkable demand in marketing. Ads on websites, streaming platforms, and television are filled with animated slogans, logos assembled from diverse visual elements, and products constructed almost molecule by molecule. In many cases, only a short video can create an appealing image of a service or product and motivate the viewer to click on an ad. That is why motion designers have no shortage of work. And truly distinguished figures in the industry, such as Pavlo Tkachenko, even more so.

Motion That Explains, Rather Than Distracts

“Today’s visual strategists create content for every platform that works with video,” says the founder of the production studio Crisp Motion. “That includes Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, as well as film and television streaming services that incorporate advertising.” For more than 13 years, he has been developing visual solutions for brands, products, and digital services, while advocating for motion design as an applied discipline situated at the intersection of design, perception psychology, and digital media.

“Motion should explain, not distract,” the producer emphasizes. “And once we accept that as an axiom, motion will evolve from a short-term effect into a tool for thinking.”

Cognitive Motion Design: Rethinking Motion Graphics

“I work with the movement of graphic objects as a language for explaining complex systems,” Pavlo says in response to the question of how his authorial approach differs from the methods of his peers. “I prioritize structural thinking and treat motion as logic, and animation as argument.”

We met with Pavlo in part to discuss his original methodology, Cognitive Motion Design, which last year, thanks to Gutenberg Publishing, was published. Specialists who actively use it say with admiration that the author has fundamentally rethought the practice of motion design: thanks to Pavlo Tkachenko, animation has ceased to be mere decoration and has become a systematic tool aimed at structuring viewer thinking and building consumer trust.

Professional Background

The significant intellectual contribution that this Ukrainian expert in dynamic visual communication has made to the development of the industry is a logical milestone in a remarkable career. For a period of time, Pavlo also served on the board of the Ukrainian Marketing Association. In addition, for nearly eight years, from 2016 to 2024, he served on the selection committee of the Rivne International Film Festival “City of Dreams.”

Pavlo has also remained active in academia: his scholarly work was published in the peer-reviewed journal Current Issues of Economic Sciences, whose international editorial board includes representatives from 11 countries.

A New Approach to Communications for Fortune 500 Companies

“The production work I create always has applied value for business,” says Pavlo Tkachenko. His work spans advertising, corporate communications, product launches, and social media campaigns. Since 2015, he has led the New York digital production agency Crisp Motion, which he co-founded. His clients include such giants as Nike, Google, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Fidelity Investments, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Puma, Comcast, Kaiser Permanente, Cisco, and Riot Games. It should be noted that this list is not exhaustive. We shortened it only to avoid tiring the reader with an extended enumeration.

Within the professional community, Pavlo is known as an expert who uses motion design to transform complex concepts into clear and compelling animated content that reaches millions of viewers. Since 2020, Pavlo Tkachenko has worked as a lead motion designer for Fidelity Investments, developing animated communications for companies included in the Fortune 500 ranking. Among them are Disney, Walmart, Pfizer, Starbucks, T-Mobile, Warner Bros. Discovery, and others.

Some of Crisp Motion’s client relationships have grown into long-term partnerships, which speaks to the high level of trust placed in Pavlo by globally recognized corporations. For six years, Pavlo Tkachenko has collaborated with JP Morgan Chase in the field of internal communications. Since 2022, he has been creating motion design for Comcast. For another long-term client, Kaiser Permanente, Pavlo even developed a comprehensive animation design language, going far beyond the creation of individual short-form videos.

International Recognition

Pavlo Tkachenko’s creative work has been recognized and honored internationally. In 2022, his motion graphics for Fidelity Investments received Platinum at the AVA Digital Awards, while his animated video for Johnson & Johnson was selected for the James E. Burke Marketing Awards, one of the company’s most prestigious global distinctions.

Despite all this, Pavlo Tkachenko has not become complacent or rested on his achievements. He continues to lead Crisp Motion, create work for corporate clients, and develop the Cognitive Motion Design methodology, shaping a future for the industry in which motion design is valued not only for its aesthetics, but above all for its real impact on the viewer. In other words, for results that can be measured and documented.
