Golden Victory: How Igor Chumikov's Unique Testing Solution Changed the Future of Mobile Apps

Well-known iOS developer Igor Chumikov, creator of breakthrough solutions for the ConsultantPlus system, co-author and reviewer of books on Swift development, became the gold winner of the prestigious international ECDMA Global Awards 2025. Igor Chumikov won one of the most difficult and competitive nominations, “Best A/B Testing Solution,” for his project “Snapshot Testing to Ensure UI Consistency in SwiftUI and UIKit.” This unique engineering solution is designed to improve the quality of iOS applications for users all around the world.

A Miracle of Thoughtful Engineering

ECDMA Global Awards 2025 is one of the world’s leading IT awards. Only the most innovative and technically advanced projects receive the status of gold winners. Igor Chumikov’s development received the highest marks from the jury.

“In a world where speed to market often compromises interface quality, Igor’s solution is a powerful framework that ensures visual integrity at scale, reduces error rates, and allows developers to confidently develop in rapidly changing multi-device environments,” noted the organizers of the ECDMA Global Awards 2025, commenting on the significance of Igor Chumikov’s development for the global mobile application market. The idea of testing application performance using snapshots was called a miracle of thoughtful engineering in the ECDMA Global Awards 2025.

The problem of user interface is relevant for the whole world. Gadget manufacturers bring models to the market with different screen sizes, running on different operating systems. Mobile applications should work the same on all the devices. But developers cannot take into account absolutely all variations of gadget models, so applications may not work correctly on non-standard screens.

Igor Chumikov’s revolutionary development allows solving this problem in a non-standard way.

The unique method is based on high-frequency testing using snapshots of the screen. When detecting deviations from the intended project, developers can immediately begin to eliminate errors. Initially, the solution was created for SwiftUI, and was later adapted to UIKit.

The program collects screenshots of interfaces, compares them using pixel identity metrics, tests asynchronous operations for complex UI components and configures accuracy parameters.

Igor patented his innovative technology, but made it free for use, which will allow developers around the world to create applications for different devices, identify discrepancies at early stages and speed up updates.

Verified by “Consultant”

Igor Chumikov’s innovative technical solution has already been tested in the Consultant Plus mobile application. This is one of the key legal cross-platform systems in Russia that gives users access to current legal acts and the history of changes to various regulations.

Igor Chumikov carried out the transition to an automated user interface testing system in ConsultantPlus within the framework of the developed methodology. As a result, visual consistency across all platforms reached 95%, errors were reduced, and the speed of preparing the system for updates increased by 40%.

The global modernization of the ConsultantPlus application began in the summer of 2023. In addition to the transition of the application to SwiftUI with the instant testing system developed by Igor Chumikov, as part of the global restructuring of the service, synchronization of document packages between the web version and the mobile application was also carried out. This innovation allowed users to work from different devices without wasting time on searching for documents in the system again, and the redesign of the interface made the service more modern and convenient for users.

Significant technical solutions were introduced in both the main commercial version of ConsultantPlus and the non-commercial edition, ConsultantPlus: Student, designed for students of law schools and colleges.

Marketplace — like the whole world

Igor Chumikov stood at the origins of the creation of a modern ecosystem for entrepreneurs who conduct their business on Ozon. According to estimates by the FAS (Federal Antimonopoly Service) of Russia, the market share of this marketplace exceeds 35%. This popularity is largely due to the electronic ecosystem, which allows businessmen without special knowledge of e-commerce to engage in entrepreneurial activity on the site.

One of the main tools of entrepreneurs is the Ozon Seller mobile application. Igor Chumikov was engaged in its development from 2020 to 2023, in particular, it was he who created the application architecture, including navigation and data processing system and adapted the screens to SwiftUI. A year earlier, Igor Chumikov made fundamental changes to another iconic application of the site — Ozon PVZ (Order Pick-up Point), which is used at order pick-up points. In particular, this application was initially on Flutter. Five years ago, the number of Ozon pick-up points in Russia began to grow rapidly and the application no longer met users’ requests. Igor Chumikov rewrote it in accordance with native iOS technologies, which increased the stability of the application, increased productivity and allowed to create a user-friendly and understandable interface. But the main achievement of Igor

Chumikov was that he was able to integrate the functions of scanning QR codes of parcels with the system of accounting of the balance of goods at pick-up points, which increased the transparency of the work of such points and simplified the life of tens of thousands of entrepreneurs who run their business with the help of Ozon. Both applications for the marketplace developed by Igor Chumikov were warmly appreciated by users. In the “Business” category in the App Store, Ozon Seller and Ozon PVZ are in the TOP-100.

Codes for life

The name of Igor Chumikov is well known to experts around the world in the field of Swift. In 2019 and 2021, he participated in the technical editing of Vasily Usov’s textbooks “Swift. Fundamentals of developing applications for iOS, iPadOS and macOS” and “Swift. Developing applications for iOS based on the UIKit framework”. These publications are still the reference books of Swift specialists.

And in March 2025, Igor Chumikov became a judge of the 72-hour hackathon “π-day of AI”, during which participants had to create creative projects using artificial intelligence in three days. Igor Chumikov assessed both the quality of the codes written by the hackathon participants and the idea itself proposed by the contestants. He also drew attention to the prospects for implementing projects and the possibility of their scaling.

Igor Chumikov uses this approach not only in competitions, but also in his professional activities. All applications created with his direct participation are based on complex technical solutions, the implementation of which requires a lot of effort, and when writing code, every symbol affects the success of the project. At the same time, Igor Chumikov himself always emphasizes that code should not be written just for the sake of coding, and that all IT solutions should contribute to progress, make a person’s life more comfortable and interesting.
