Thaís Pereira Pires: Transforming HR in the Pharmaceutical Industry with Groundbreaking Research

Thaís Pereira Pires

Thaís Pereira Pires is revolutionizing human resources (HR) management in the pharmaceutical industry, introducing strategic solutions that blend technology and ethical practices to attract and retain talent. As a Senior Member of the IEEE, a distinction awarded to only 10% of the over 500,000 global members of the organization, Thaís combines her expertise in business administration with cutting-edge research, establishing herself as a visionary leader in the field. With 17 years of experience in pharmaceutical companies, including her role as HR Executive at Althia S/A Pharmaceutical Industry (2010-2018), Thaís was responsible for implementing HR policies across all industrial plants of the group, managing teams of up to 300 employees, and leading initiatives like the Active Principle Program, which attracted and retained specialized talent in a sector facing a shortage of skilled professionals.

Her publications in prestigious journals, such as the International Seven Multidisciplinary Journal, Revista Científica Sistemática, and Revistaft, address critical HR challenges in the pharmaceutical industry. In “Strategic Recruitment in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Challenges and Technological Solutions” (International Seven Journal, 2025), Thaís explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms accelerate recruitment by automating resume screening and initial interviews. She emphasizes the importance of ethical practices to ensure transparency and impartiality, as supported by Shah (2024). During her career, Thaís also implemented differentiated recruitment processes at Althia, fostering integration with unions such as the Union of Chemists (SINDQUIM) and the Union of Pharmaceutical Industries (SINDUSFARMA), ensuring compliance with labor laws and industry regulations.

In “Effective Human Resource Practices in the Pharmaceutical Industry” (Revista Científica Sistemática, 2025), Thaís highlights strategies like competency-based management, flexible working hours, and People Analytics, which enhance employee satisfaction and productivity. Her findings, corroborated by Kalyanamitra et al. (2020), show that mentorship and continuous training programs reduce turnover, boosting innovation. At Althia, she created mentorship programs for all hierarchical levels, including the PLR – Profit Sharing Program and performance evaluations, while also facilitating the integration of new professionals during the Kara Drogasil merger, the largest in the Brazilian pharmaceutical sector. In “Strategies to Combat the Shortage of Skilled Professionals” (Revistaft, 2022), she proposes partnerships with universities and internal training programs to address the talent shortage, a sustainable solution to the bureaucratic barriers of importing professionals—a practice she also implemented at Althia to develop local talent.

In the industry, Thaís makes an impact by promoting inclusive organizational cultures and retention strategies that align talent with the sector’s demands. At Althia, she was responsible for wellness programs like the CIPA Health Week, addressing topics such as quality of life and occupational safety, as well as continuous education initiatives to upskill employees. Her recommendations for collaborations with specialized headhunters and efficient onboarding programs have helped companies attract top-tier professionals, enhancing global competitiveness. As a Senior Member of the IEEE, Thaís participates in international conferences, sharing her insights and influencing global HR standards. With a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from UNIBAN (2006), a Postgraduate degree in Strategic People Management from UNIFEO (2013), Professional Training in Coaching from the Brazilian Institute of Coaching (2016), and fluency in advanced English, Thaís inspires a new generation of professionals to rethink HR as a driver of scientific progress and global health.
