Paypal Appoints a New CTO
PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: PYPL) on Thursday announced the appointment of Srini Venkatesan as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), which will take effect starting June 24.
Alex Chriss, PayPal President and CEO, said that Srini is a technologist and leader known for building and raising tech organizations from startups to big companies, and he is happy that Srini is joining the Paypal team.
“Srini is a seasoned technologist and leader with a successful track record of building and scaling technology organizations, from early-stage startups to the world’s largest retailer. As we execute our mission to revolutionize commerce globally, Srini’s experience leading technology, digital transformation, and AI personalization from inside some of our largest customers and partners will be invaluable. I’m thrilled to have Srini join the PayPal team,” Alex said.
Srini Venkatesan said in a comment that he is happy to be joining Paypal and bringing his experiences from tech and retail to the company.
“I’ve spent my career innovating to create new and improved ways for customers to discover, shop, and buy the goods they want and need. I’m incredibly excited about joining PayPal and bringing together my experiences across tech and retail to personalize customers’ shopping experiences,” Srini said.
Paypal said that Venkatesan will lead the development and implementation of technology across the entire PayPal ecosystem, including analytics and data science, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, information security, infrastructure operations, and product engineering. He will also be reporting to Alex, Paypal’s CEO and president.
Archie Deskus, PayPal’s Chief Technology Officer, has decided to leave the company. Under Deskus’ leadership, the company made significant progress toward operating as a true platform company and strengthened its technology team, processes, and systems, Paypal said.
About Srini Venkatesan
According to Paypal, Venkatesan is joining them from Walmart, where he most recently led the U.S. Omni Platforms and Tech organization. At Walmart, he led a team to build platforms, features, and capabilities to support the retailer globally. Prior to Walmart, Venkatesan oversaw Yahoo’s display and video ad technology platforms. Earlier in his career, he led product and technology teams at eBay and was Chief Technology Officer at StubHub and Marketo. Venkatesan earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Bharathiar University.
PayPal Announced New Leaders
PayPal Holdings, Inc. announced on May 28, 2024, new leadership appointments that will drive the creation of a new advertising platform and strengthen the company’s consumer value proposition.
The company said that Mark Grether will join on May 28 as SVP, General Manager, PayPal Ads, and John Anderson has joined as SVP, General Manager, Consumer Group. The two will report to Diego Scotti, EVP, General Manager, Consumer Group, and Global Marketing & Communications.
Grether joined PayPal from Uber; he was the Vice President and General Manager of Uber Advertising. Under his leadership, Uber Advertising grew to a $1 billion business with more than 500,000 advertisers globally, Paypal said.
Anderson joined PayPal from Plaid, where he was Head of Product and Payments and oversaw significant growth of Plaid’s payment product suite. Prior to Plaid, John spent a decade at Meta in numerous product and leadership roles, including Head of Product for Oculus, Head of Facebook Japan, and Head of product and operations teams for Payments, Commerce, and Risk, according to the report.
