Bio

Palmer was born and raised in an average American family. She graduated from Hopkins School in New Haven, Connecticut in 1986. Her fascination with art history led her to the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in History of Art in 1990. Her thesis studied Henri Matisse, the French artist acclaimed for his use of color, shapes, and draughtsmanship.

In 1991, she joined the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in the Drawing Department as a secretary. Later, Palmer moved to the Department of Education, where she advanced to leadership positions. Palmer served as the Head of Public Programs and eventually the Assistant Director of the Department. Although she stepped down from active roles in May 1998 to focus on her family, she continued to serve on the Education Board for over 15 years.

Palmer is also an avid supporter of American football and the New York Jets, and she is a former lacrosse player and a stalwart supporter of the University of Pennsylvania’s Women’s Lacrosse Team.
