Symfony vs. Laravel: Which Is Better for Your Project?

By Victor Miller·Published January 27, 2022·Software

When it comes to web development, it is evident that PHP frameworks are the most commonly chosen solution. There are various PHP frameworks on the market, but two of them are most popular among web developers: Symfony and Laravel.

Deciding whether to hire Laravel developer or to hire a Symfony developer sometimes is not easy since both of these frameworks have some pros and cons. Of course, it is best to inform yourself first before making a decision.

That is why we will see their similarities, differences, and pros and cons to see which one is a better choice for your project. Let’s start.

Similarities Between Laravel and Symfony

There aren’t many similarities between Laravel and Symfony, but the ones that exist are those which make the basics of a framework. Both of them use PHP as a programming language, and they are both cross-platform. This similarity means that Laravel and Symfony are computer software that is executed on multiple computing platforms.

Furthermore, both of them are multi-language content and also multi-user, and the two provide the pattern for interfaces, support text search, and the scaffolding of the application. So, more or less, these are the similarities between Laravel and Symfony. Of course, no matter which one you choose, you will still have to also work on the design of the site in order to create something that is nearly perfect. But before you get there, first you need a great framework, so let’s move on to the differences.

Differences Between the Two

Symfony can be modified to C# or Java, and that is why it can be referred to as a conventional PHP language. Still, it does have unique and one-of-a-kind features that make it impressive.

On the other hand, Laravel is considered the most famous PHP framework today, and it has more impressive traits and methods. These make the code shorter and the framework more accessible in terms of understanding the process.

Furthermore, Symfony is created for a little bit of a larger scale and complex projects having massive features that numerous clients are using. As for Laravel, it is a framework that is related to the MVC pattern, and when it comes to scalability, you should know that you have to write code in order to handle this.

Symfony provides Twig, but Laravel provides Blade, which has several impressive features that provide benefits, for example, creating a reusable code that is not an option with Twig.

As for database support, Laravel uses Eloquent, and Symfony uses Doctrine, which means that both give object-relational mapping. And when it comes to speed, Laravel is similar to the other PHP applications, and it secures an efficient control system that helps the migration of the apps later. With Symfony, the speed improves if it is properly implemented, and then it can adjust an individual core feature speed, so the app will decide which ones are needed at the moment.

Since we saw the main differences between the two, let’s go to the pros and cons of each framework.

Laravel

It is more or less evident that the Laravel framework is probably a better choice, but before we definitely decide on it, let’s see its pros and cons.

Final Words

Here you have all the similarities, the differences, and also the pros and cons of both Laravel and Symfony frameworks, so you will decide which one is better for your project. Still, you are probably better off going with Laravel since Laravel developers are easier to hire, and mainly you won’t need to train new ones and risk losing time while organizing projects.

Therefore, don’t waste any more time and hire the perfect developer to create your much-needed site project in order to improve your business as much as possible!
