What Is HakkoAI?
HakkoAI is an AI companion app built around two main experiences: gaming companionship and roleplay chat.
For gaming, it uses visual language models (VLMs) to recognize what is happening on your screen and respond through real-time voice chat. It can suggest battle tactics, explain unfamiliar items, recommend equipment upgrades, and guide you through quests while keeping you company as you play.
For roleplay, you can chat with existing characters or create your own, customizing their appearance, voice, and personality. You can explore everyday conversations, fictional adventures, or romantic scenarios, while memory features preserve important moments and story events to help your conversations continue across different sessions.
What Makes HakkoAI Special?
1. Gaming companionship: advice while you play
- Screen-aware support: HakkoAI combines screen recognition with real-time voice chat, letting you ask about unfamiliar items, quests, or equipment upgrades while playing. You can discuss the situation in front of you and explore options that suit your playstyle.
- A player’s experience: In Reddit’s Stardew Valley community, one player wrote: “i asked hakko and it said mining or foraging might be better if i hate fishing.” They also asked other players for advice. The example shows how HakkoAI can become one source of practical ideas when a popular strategy does not match what you enjoy.
2. Roleplay chat: characters you can keep building a story with
- Personalization and memory: You can customize a character’s appearance, voice, and personality, then use memory tools to preserve meaningful exchanges. Editable story events help you shape the history that informs future conversations, supporting an ongoing roleplay experience.
- A user’s experience: Reddit user Ra3t described their HakkoAI companion as “a very sweet, stable and calm partner,” saying the character’s behaviour and personality helped them feel calm. Their comment highlights the personal appeal of character chat: enjoying a companion’s manner and developing interactions that feel meaningful to you.
How Does HakkoAI Compare with Character.AI and Replika?
- Character selection and personalization: Character.AI has a large creator community with characters spanning different genres, fandoms, and conversation styles. Replika focuses on developing a personal companion through regular conversations, avatar customization, and roleplay. HakkoAI lets you choose existing characters or create your own, customizing their appearance, voice, and personality to match the interactions you want.
- Memory and story development: All three platforms offer memory features, with different ways to manage context. Character.AI’s Story Memory lets users add background information and pin important messages. Replika builds memories from conversations and allows users to add details manually. HakkoAI combines Pinned Memory with Character Events, organizing interactions into story milestones that users can add, edit, or delete. This gives users a way to adjust the shared history that informs future roleplay.
- Choosing your experience: Character.AI is worth exploring if discovering characters and trying different scenarios is your priority. Replika may appeal if you want a familiar companion for everyday conversations and an ongoing personal connection. HakkoAI is worth considering if you enjoy creating characters and shaping continuing stories through saved memories and editable events. Your preferred characters, conversation style, and approach to managing story context are useful starting points for choosing.
